  Farsley v AFC Emley 2 - 1

Emley completed their season with a gutsy performance against the Champions for the last 3 years, and probable winners this year.
With a few unavailable due to cup finals and injury I feared the worst, but the lads who came in particularly Ben and Sam Long and Nick Ashbee performed very well. Kieran Ryan and David Cyrus made welcome returns, and with Chris Rock Grant Norman, Stephen Wilson and Tim Clarke, forming a stiff rear guard in front of the magnificent Adam Fox in goal, it was no surprise to reach half time 0-0. In fact we could have gone in 0-1 if a header had gone in off the post instead of rebounding into their goalkeepers hands. Farsley went ahead when the poor linesman failed to flag for off side, but we equalised when Ben Long was brought down in the penalty area and Tim Clarke banged in the penalty. Farsley were given a penalty by the fussy ref, even though Stephen Wilson made a great tackle, and won the ball. Adam Fox continued to work miracles in goal to keep a rampant Farsley out.
This was the last game for Chris Rock, Tim Clarke and James Blaine, and Scott Cusworth, and I would like to thank them for their support and comittment to the u/19s this season

  AFC Emley v Thackley 0 - 3

We started off with a 4 4 2 formation with Ashley Duncan making his 1st start for us. The game was goalless up to half time, though Thackley playing some free flowing football gave us a few scares. Duncan could have put us ahead but his cross shot was bundled off the line. We were not able to pass the ball as well as we would have liked, with Scott Cusworth and Mark Atkinson working hard but the final ball and the long ball were not working. Blainey worked tirelessly up front, and always looked dangerous. We conceded the 1st goal when Stephen Wilson was out muscled down our right, and the player smashed the ball into the top corner. We gave away the second goal when Adam Fox was beaten by another great shot when the defence failed to clear the cross. We increased the tempo and had 2 point blank shots saved, a header by Adam Powell that hit the crossbar, and got no reward for it. They scored the 3rd with a header that came between Grant Norman and Sean Farrar. Good work by James Blaine, and Scott Cusworth.
Last home game is next Tuesday v Guiseley ko 7-45pm.

Liversedge v AFC Emley 1 - 3

It gives me great pleasure to report our well fought victory against Liversedge. After the problems from our last game, which were all of my making, we turned a team out that did us proud, this win was as specially sweet as we beat the "sedge" in their own back yard, in a hard fought wind and rain swept game. With Scott Cusworth and Mark Atkinson and u/16s Adam Powell and Jordan Moltas forming a competitive midfield and Chris Rock, Grant Norman, Stephen Wilson and Tim Clarke a solid defence, we took the game to Liversedge, and Jermaine Mcgillvary and James Blaine caused havoc in their defence.
0-0 at half time " Clarkey floated a corner to the near post and Adam Powell ran from the back post to flick his downward header into the far corner. Liversedge then had a man sent off for swearing at the ref. This got their tails up and they equalised when a poor goal kick was played back in and the forward just beat Adam Fox to the ball. We broke straight back and Mark Atkinson fed James Blaine who smashed in his 6th goal in 4 games. Liversedge lost 2 players thro injury and playing with 9 men for the last 15 mins they pressed us back with the wind behind them and only a great save from Adam Fox kept them out. Mark Atkinson crowned a fine game when he picked up the ball in his own half, ran to the corner, beat the full back and laid the ball square for Ashley Duncan to score his 1st goal for the team. I have one thing to say to the "sedge" if he reads this. "He who laughs last laughs longest "

  Eccleshill v AFC Emley  6 - 2

This result was a big disappointment, and was down to me getting the dates mixed up .I was under the impression that it was a Tuesday game, got all the players to meet, only to find out the game was on the Wed. As a result my squad was decimated ,to the tune of 6 players being unavailable. I brought back players who hadn't played for a while plus 3 16 yr olds. We kept them at 2 - 0 and u/16 Adam Powell scored his 1st goal for the 19s and as they made it 3-1 , James Blaine scored a beauty to pull back to 3-2 .Their strength eventually told and they punished us in the last 10 mins. Sean Farrar (son of Mike) had a solid debut along side Grant Norman ( another 16 yr old regular) . All the lads battled hard in a very competitive game.
  AFC Emley v Ossett A 3 - 2

AFC won our 2nd game on the trot with a narrow win over rivals Ossett A last night, following our win over Halifax 3 weeks ago. We got off to a great start when David Cyrus was put through by Tim Clarke, and he rounded the goalkeeper and scored from a narrow angle. Another great ball from "Clarkey " put Gaz Jones away down the right, and he crossed for James Blaine to smash in the second. " Blainey" then scored his second with a great srike from the edge of the box.
Ossett pressed and pulled one back after the defence was caught napping. With newcomer Joel Franklyn, showing composure at the back and Chris Rock with his usual solid performance Emley were in command. At half time I had to introduce Tobias Thompson another 16 yr old for his debut, and also Ashley Duncan who was also a 16 yr old debutant centre forward, they both adapted to the pace of the game, and did not look out of place. Ossett pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, and we rather held on at the end for 3 valuable points. Mark Atkinson and Gary Jones worked tirelessly in midfield ,and Cyrus despite a tight hamstring, always looked dangerous.
  Halifax T v AFC Emley 3 - 7

Starting with a Xmas tree formation of 4-1-2-2-1 we were 2-0 down in 6 mins. Reverting to 4-4-2 we pulled 1 back when Tim Clarke combined with James Bosson, who crossed to the far post for Gaz Jones to bundle in. Kieran Ryan combined with James Blaine twice as both of them scored to put us 2-3 in front, the third goal being " Blaineys" 1st goal for the club. Changing at half time with David Cyrus coming on we scored 2 goals in quick succession with Kieran Ryans free kick putting David Beckham to shame. Blaney completed his hat trick with a stunning 25 yard shot over the goalkeeper, and Ryan completed his hat trick, after good work by Cusworth, who worked tirelessly with Bosson in midfield. Three u/16 took part with Alex Slack having a solid game at centre back, and Adam Powell and Nathan Smith making useful contributions when coming on. Halifax never gave in and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot when " Rocky" brought their dangerous centre forward down. This was our 1st double over Halifax and only our 3rd win of the season, but lets hope we can kick on from here, because above all we liked the idea of winning for a change, and the confidence that can bring.
  AFC Emley v Silsden 1 - 2

In terrible driving rain conditions Emley went in front after 5 minutes when Kieran Ryan volleyed in Scott Cusworth's great free-kick. With 2 new players appearing ie James Blane ex Bradford C, and Stephen Wilson from Dalton, along with Emley u/16 Alex Slack making his 2nd appearance, we matched high flying Silsden in all departments, but still conceded a silly goal, when Tim Stephenson made a diving save to a shot that was going wide( but he got no shout) and their forward shot into an empty net. Everybody raised their game none more than Grant Norman and Jordan Peace making a welcome return in defence, Mark Atkinson and Kieran Ryan looked sharp up front with Gaz Jones and Scott Cusworth creating in midfield. Atkinson saw his shot rattle the post, hit the keeper on the head and get cleared, while David Cyrus smashed his half volley on to the crossbar. Emley's hopes were dashed 5 minutes from time when a shot gave Tim no chance, and Silsden admitted they had stolen the points.
Next game is away on Sunday 12 th Feb at Ossett Town ko 2pm, all support welcome
Just to put the record straight we lost to BPA at home 2 - 3 and lost away 2 - 0.

Ossett Albion
We also got beat by Ossett Albion on Monday 5 or 6 - 0, I' m not sure of the score because we had Chris Rock carried off before the end with a suspected broken ankle which has turned out to be a bad sprain. The performance went from reasonable in the 1st half to very poor in the second. 0-0 at half-time then a free-kick resulting in us defending too deep, Tim Stephenson shouting for it, not getting it and their player nipping in to glance home. Second was as we lost the ball at left back and they scored, then a poor goal kick gifted them the 3rd. We changed to 3 at the back, bringing on u/16 Adam Powell up front, chased the game and ended up conceding more goals. David Cyrus had a frustrating night getting caught off-side too many times. Chances were few and far between, and they were missed when created. The team is better than this, and I just hope lessons are learned for the future. Yes we had some u/16s and u/17s playing but they are good players with good characters who will come out of this.
Next game is at home on Tuesday24th Jan ko 7-45pm

  Thackley v AFC Emley 1 - 1

U/19s played their 1st game for 2 weeks last night and should have come away with 3 points instead of 1. Tim Clarke capped a fine performance with an early goal when the keeper misread his free-kick and palmed the ball into the net.We had a few changes last night due to injuries, and two trialists making their debuts. Andy Wathen had a fine debut playing up front.and was unfortunate not to score. Cedric Moussinga, who is on trial with Leicester City, played half a game but didn't really show his full capabilites, but could have scored 2 goals with better finishing. The best chance fell to Tim Clarke, who has a thunderous left foot, but he decided to come inside and use his right which the goalkeeper saved.Chris Rock, Scott Cusworth,Sam Long, and Grant Norman, were defensively sound, while Mark Atkinson and Gary Jones worked very hard in midfield.
Tim Stephenson also kept us in the game with 2 marvellous one on one saves in the second -half.
Next game at Emley next Wed v Eccleshill ko 7-45pm

Bradford PA

u/19s lost narrowly to Bradford PA on Tues, after a 3 week lay off due to weather and a free week ,it took quite a while for the boys to get going. Half -time score was 0-0, but we conceded a slack goal 5 mins into the second half, and then went 0-2 down soon after. Miles Thorpe, who had his most productive game so far, pulled one back with a great cross shot going in off the far post. We then rallied and with Chris
( Rocky) Rock tackling anything that moved, ably supported in midfield by Simeon Douglas and Gaz Jones, we were very much on top, but BPA broke away and scored a deflected goal to make 1-3.We still went at them and were awarded a penalty, Tim Clarke duly smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Their goalkeeper made 3 very good saves to thwart us, and Kieran Ryan could not force the ball into the net in the last few minutes.
We are at home next Tuesday 8th Nov v Guiseley ko 7-45pm

  AFC Emley v Halifax T 1 - 0

The u/19s had their 2nd win in the league against strongly fancied Halifax Town. In a hard fought match in very windy and wet conditions Emley battled well with central defenders Scott Cusworth and Chris Rock and right back Jermaine Mcgillvary outstanding. Tim Clarke and Gary Jones worked hard in midfield, and Mark Atkinson, Ryan Bedford and Kieran Ryan played their part. David Cyrus headed a good chance over ,and Mark Atkinson just failed to connect with a header. The lady ref has had better games, and the linesmen didn't fare much better. The next game is at home v Ossett Albion on 25 th October
  AFC Emley v Ossett T 4 - 1

We won our 1st game yesterday in the local derby against Ossett T.
Kieran Ryan scored the 1st with a good header from a Scott Cusworth corner. Ossett equalised and Adam Day put us back in front with a great goal after a superb thro ball from Mark Atkinson. Kieran Ryan scored his 2nd after great work by Ryan Bedford, and Bedford rounded off the scoring with a super volley. The only black points on the day were injuries to Gary Jones after 10 mins, and a knee injury to Adam Day when his blade got stuck in the turf.
Big match next Tuesday 7-45pm ko Morecombe in FA Yth Cup

Silsden v AFC Emley 2 - 1

We lost again last night away at Silsden 2-1,against a poorer side than Farsley. We conceded two bad goals and could have scored 3 or 4 more than the one that Adam Day equalised with, had our forwards kept their shots low.
Our next home game is on Sunday18th Sept ko 2-30 v Ossett Town, then on Tuesday 27th Sep (providing the floodlight is fixed) we entertain Morecambe in the
F A Youth cup ko 7-45pm,your support will be appreciated

AFC Emley v Farsley Celtic

1ST League game competed well against the best u/19 team I have seen .Farsley were very strong ,clinical and cynical when it came to us getting near their goal. My team are very young and inexperienced, hopefully they will improve over the season.

Beaten by an older and far superior side, simple as that. Our lads looked very young and were `bossed` in every position. Still, they showed grit and determination first half to keep it at 0-0. Farsley will be champions again this season and Emley will win more than they'll lose, they will be a force next season if they stay together

  Old Thornesians

U/19s kick off their season on Sunday at the Welfare 2-30 ko against champions Farsley Celtic. As well as watching the old heroes from the glory days of Emley, please come and watch the new boys on the block.
We rounded off our pre- season friendlies with an 8-1victory over open age side Old Thornesians, after going a goal down, Ryan Bedford scored 4, Simeon Douglas 2,and Kieran Ryan and Nick Ashbee completed the scoring. The majority of the squad are u/18, leaving them available for the F A Youth cup  Morecambe on the27th September ko 7-45pm.

  Pontefract Collieries

The u/19s played their 5th friendly last night at Pontefract Colls, and won 1-5.With 3 new players joining the squad for the 1st time, we got off to a great start with Mark Atkinson scoring the 1st of his hat-trick after 1min 45 secs. David Cyrus scored the second after looking very quick and dangerous. With Cusworth, Jones ,Day and Morton controlling the midfield, we were in control, until we got complacent and allowed them to sneak a goal back. We introduced 5 subs at half time and Atkinson scored his hat trick with Sam Long adding the other. A good all round performance
  Space FC

u/19s played their 3rd friendly last night against open age side Space FC. They were up against it in the 1st half when trying a new formation which did not work out too well, and Space were very strong and well organised. They went ahead and were 0-1 at half time. A different Emley came out in the 2nd half and equalised thro Tim Clarke. He then put us 2-1 up before damaging an ankle and having to leave the field. Space forced an equaliser but Miles Thorpe scored the winner in the last minute. Mark Atkinson worked tirelessly, as did Gaz Jones and Tim Clarke
  Glasshoughton

u/19s played their 2nd pre season friendly at Glasshoughton and won 1-2.Goalscorers were Ryan Morton from the spot and 15yr old Chris Scott rammed in the 2nd.With better finishing Emley could have won by 4 or 5, but complacency in some areas set in, conceded a goal and were then on the back foot. Good performance to say some of the players hadn't even met before this match. Mark Deeley, and Mark Atkinson had good games, while Chris Scott was powerful up front, linking well with Ryan Bedford.

Next game is at home on Monday 8th Aug ko 6-30 v Space FC.
  Dodworth

the 2-2 draw against a tough open age side Dodworth was very encouraging, particularly with having so many 16/17 playing their 1st game together. Old boy Tom Appleton showed his strength and ability scoring both goals, Scott Cusworth was magnificent as sweeper, and Chris Rock, and big front man Chris Scott, made good impressions on their debuts.
