Cup defeat

Emley v Selby Town FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round (Under 18)

After a stunning 9 - 0 victory against Bradford Park Avenue in the previous round of the FA Youth Cup, Emley bowed out at the second qualifying stage after a 3 - 1 defeat by Selby Town.

Emley never really got out of the starting blocks and, after James Stapleton had missed an early chance for Emley, Selby took a deserved lead just before the break.

Adam Day equalised for the Welfare Ground side but two goals for Selby, including a shot which took a wicked deflection, sealed victory for the visitors.

Emley v Bradford Park Avenue FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round (Under 18)

Emley Youths in Cup Delight

Emley got their FA Youth Cup campaign off to a dream start. The juniors trounced Bradford Park Avenue 9 - 0 in their 1st Qualifying round tie at the Welfare Ground.
James Stapleton had already missed two chances when he fired the home team ahead. Gary Jones then added a second with a great header from a Scott Cusworth corner. Mark Atkinson and Cusworth then put Emley four up by the break.

The home side kept pressing in the 2nd half and added further goals through Tom Dyson, James Eatherley, Jamie Aspinall, Stapleton and Adam Woodcock.

Emley now play Selby Town, 3 - 0 winners at Pontefract Collieries, in the second qualifying round at the Welfare Ground on Tuesday October 12th (7.45)

While there are three qualifying rounds, Town come into the competition at the 1st Round stage.

It is the 53rd running of the Cup, first won by Manchester United in 1953 when Wolves were beaten 9 - 3 over two legs in the final. Middlesborough are the current holders.
