REPORT

Emley 2 Dodworth 1
The youngsters became Division 1 champions last night at Penistone Church FC in what was a thrilling and nail biting game.Emley started well, creating chances mainly through the middle with Shooter,Wilson and Slack bossing the midfield, and the back three of Farrar,Garside and Smith looking solid. The game altered though mid way through the half when Emley scored,a long throw by Slack which was flicked on by Cooper for Powell to finish. This spurred Dodworth and to be honest they were the better team for long periods after and Robbo in goal kept us in it on a few occasions in the first period.Much of the same in the second half and it was inevitable that the tough Barnsley outfit would score, and after they did their tails were really up!!But,Emleys resilience was awsome on the night and always looked dangerous on the break, especially with the introduction of Anderson to partner young Powelly. As extra time loomed Emley broke down the left and Maltas whipped in a cross, hoping for it to be dispatched, which it was by Powell.
As a parent myself,i know these lads have worked hard this season, they started last July and the commitment was there to see with always between 14 and 18 training every session.I only hope the club takes stock of what they have here with rumours of the team disbanding and other local clubs interested in certain players!!
Emley 0 Brighouse 2 (cup semi-final)
Out muscled today in a typical scrappy cup tie. The first half was dreadful, no passing, no shots on goal, no chances, just dogged endeavour and poor football,0-0 at the interval.
The second period was a little better with emley playing some decent stuff and Brighouse defending well.
Two gilt-edge chances fell to emley, one a header by Shooter that hit the bar, and another by Brothers who blazed wide from eight yards. Trouble is, with five minutes to go Brighouse carved out a chance which was dispatched with aplomb, followed by another within a minute.

Too many passengers on the pitch today.....too many 'big time charlies'. As i have said before,
this side has won nothing yet!

YMCA 1 Emley 3
A very steady performance against the bottom side after a two week lay off. Sublime football but poor finishing dominated the first half, at times the lads were a pleasure to watch, but they need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal. The midfield of Garside, Slack and Maltas bossed the first period and the back three of Smith, Farrar and Wilson were tight as a drum. Emley scored early on from a corner kick, won initially by Slack and crashed home by Pollard,1-0 at half time.
The second half was a different 'kettle of fish'. The home side came out battling and Emley looked sloppy in a few departments but managed to score mid way through the half from another corner situation, whipped in to near post by Whyte and flicked on by Powell for Slack to head home. After this YMCA had their best period and eventually scored with a long range effort, but all the while JJ Anderson and Jordan Maltas always looked dangerous on the break as did Cooper and Scott up front. The 'killer'
goal came from another dead ball situation, a 20yd free kick that was smashed home by the eventual MOM, Maltas.

Emley 3 Honley 1
Maltas 2, Brothers. MOM Jordan Maltas, a player growing in stature with every game and highly influential alongside the ubiquitous Wayne Shooter in midfield.
A bland first half, but stunning football spectacle second period which was a credit to both sides
considering the sticky pitch. Shame about the scenes at full time where two or three Emley players had to get involved with opposition parents, and showing a very immature and indisciplined nature........and basically letting the side, and club, down.
Battyeford 1 Emley 3
Always the stronger side, Emley dominated a game of two teams who tried to play football on what can only be described as a 'bogmire'. How can junior players improve their skills on places like this ??? and with the growing number of junior clubs in the area, things can only get worse!! No wonder the Premiership and football league clubs are recruiting more and more technically sound foreign players
.........Ok...i`ll get off my soapbox now and say well done to the boys for playing some decent stuff in poor conditions.

Team; Roberts,Garside,Smith(capt),Farrar,Pilkington,Slack,Shooter,Brothers,Maltas,Powell,Scott;
subs; Whyte, Anderson, Haygarth, Cooper.

Goals; Shooter 2, Powell. MOM; Sean Farrar.
Emley 3 Wyke 0 (cup quarter final)
I couldn't get to watch the lads this week but by all accounts the unbeaten third division leaders were over run in the first period with goals from Pollard, Brothers and Maltas. Again the defensive unit of Smith, Farrar, Garside and Pilkington were superb.'Brothers in midfield worked tirelessly as ever alongside the 'little fella' Wayne Shooter. The second half was a quiet affair as Emley shut up shop to take the tie.
Emley 6 Rastrick 0 (league)
An awful game to watch dominated by a superb defensive display from Nat Smith, Gareth  Garside and Alex Slack. Only 3 goals conceded in 12 league outings says it all. 9 clean sheets is an outstanding effort lads....but remember....you have won nothing yet!!!!!

Emley 6 Linthwaite 0 (cup 3rd rnd)
An adequate performance against a resilient 3rd division side who came with spoiling tactics which paid off for 30 minutes. The deadlock was broken by MOM Ash Brothers with a strike from outside the box. The manager didn't seem happy at half time as he selected a few choice words, and the lads responded well in the 2nd period. Great goals from Maltas, Anderson and another from Brothers were the highlights, as well as good performances from skipper, Smith and Alex Slack. A welcome return to the side too by Chris Scott after recovering from a broken rib.

Emley 3 Brighouse 0
A real dogged battle on a sticky pitch and well reffed by Mr Whitehead, for keeping the lid on a potential powder keg!! The back three of Sean Farrar (son of Emley old boy,Mike), Nat Smith and MOM Liam Wilson were superb as was James Pilkington who sat just in front to make a solid defence.Goals came from strikers, Cooper and Powell, and defender Pollard with a debut goal.

8th jan............Tingley Athletic 0 Emley 9 (cup)
15th jan...........Emley 3 Dalton 0 (league)
Great result this week against the old foe Dalton keeps the lads three points clear at the top of a very competitive table. Well done too the three lads who have impressed u/19 academy manager, Mr Ray Norman, and have been included in his squad tomorrow to play Ossett Albion,away,7.45 ko.....Nat Smith, Liam Wilson and Adam Powell.

Halifax U16 friendly  0 - 0

There is an old saying in football "there is no such thing as a friendly" and that was definitely the case today as the two teams battled out an entertaining no score draw. In the first half Emley played a 3;5;2 formation with Nat Smith, Sean Farrar and the outstanding Liam Smith at the back. The middle five comprised of wing backs Ash Brothers and Jordan Maltas with Alex Slack, James Pilkington and Wayne Shooter in the middle of midfield,`Pilki`playing the holding role. Up top was Chris Scott and Jake Cooper, busy as ever. It was backs to the wall stuff as Emley braved a stiff breeze against and neither side created many clear cut chances in a dogged midfield tussle. Keeper James Roberts made a smart save early on, but wasn't bothered much first half, though the away side did look dangerous from set pieces.
Back to a traditional 4;4;2 for the second period and the introduction of new players Keith Woolley in goal, Richard Pollard at left back,J ames Whyte at left wing, James Anderson at right wing and Adam Powell up front who replaced 'Big Scotty' who went off to hospital with a suspected broken rib. The second half saw many chances for the home side, notably one from 'Whytey' who passed when it seemed easier to shoot. Another when 'Shoots' snatched at a chance when Brothers was in a better position,a nd 'Coops' tried a spectacular overhead that went a foot over. Halifax hit the bar late on but didn't create much. 'JJ' Anderson had a tremendous half, he was an absolute menace to the Halifax defence and he was my man of the match, closely followed by Liam Wilsons powerful defensive display. Great performance boys.

Hyde Park Knights 5 Emley 2,
A definite wake up call for a few players who perhaps believed in their own hype..........out played and out muscled...men and boys!!!!!!
Results for Dec 4th.
Netherton v Emley pp (waterlogged)
Emley 2nds 1 YMCA 0

Another smashing victory for the second string, beating the current leaders. Great credit to John Pickup and his team, they seem to get better every week.
This week the first team travel to Doncaster in the Sheffield & Hallamshire cup to play the Donny league and cup double winners Hyde Park Knights.
Rastrick 0 AFC Emley 8
I believe it took a while to break down a plucky and dogged Calderdale outfit, but a great strike from No. 9 Scott for goal number one apparently opened the floodgates. MOM; Richard Pollard at left back.
Well done also the u/16 second string winning 4-2 against the first team of Kexborough, always a tough fixture.
AFC Emley 11 Netherton 0 (league cup 1st rnd)
The lads booked a trip to Tingley today for the second round of the cup. An awesome display of complete football with scorers; Scott 6,Haygarth 2,Cooper 1,Whyte 1 and Maltas 1.

Dinnington Town 1 AFC Emley 3................Just been informed that the lads have progressed to the last sixteen of this prestigious old competition with an away win at well-fancied Dinnington Town. Goals from Liam Wilson, skipper Nat Smith and Adam Powell did the trick. MOM was Nathan Smith who led by example from the back.

This result is the sides 10th straight win this season;
Emley v Netherton 5 - 0 league
Gomersal v Emley 0 - 1 league
Emley v YMCA 4 - 1 league
Emley v Howden Clough 4- 0 league
Treddlehoyle v Emley 0- 7 Sheff cup

Howden Clough v Emley 0 - 7 league
Emley v Battyeford 5 - 1 league
Honley v Emley 0 - 3 league
Dinnington Town v Emley 1 - 3 Sheff cup

Good luck next week lads in the first round of the Huddersfield league cup.................
I will endeavour to report on future games and do a few player profiles soon

Treddlehoyle & Kingstone 0 AFC Emley 7

Great win by the young lads in a very competitive battle in Barnsley on Sunday. Goals from Scott 5,Cooper and Shooter on his debut, followed by a 20 man brawl near the end were the highlights of a pretty poor game.
Certainly a better side than last season, good signings, great team spirit and plenty commitment........sadly lacking last year!
emley u/16 4 emley u/18 1

We're looking good this season, new signings and great team spirit. We easily beat the u/18s on sunday. Can't wait for the season to start.
Beat another older side this morning 4-1 at Scissett. Poor game but stuck at them after a slow start, and eventually ran away with it.
