There's
always next season Two cup finals and 4th in the league, with a fixture pile up coinciding with loads of injuries - could have been a worse season! |
|
Sun
May 15th Minor
cup final at Bradley Mills FC v Dalton Yes Statto, lost 6-0 to a very good side. Mind you, with only ten fit players at the club we were on a hiding to nothing from the kick off. It`s been a desperately unlucky season, with 20 players registered and have 10 missing for a cup final is a disaster to say the least! Any how, i`m not one for 'bellyaching' cos as the saying goes; "Winners sit back while losers talk all night!" |

Sun
Apr 24th Emley 3 Clifton 0 Fri Apr 22nd 2005 Netherton 2 Emley 1 Two shocking games, especially the debacle on Friday night which was summed up perfectly by an Emley fan, "our lads couldn't finish a pork pie". |
|
Sun
Apr 17, 2005 Clifton 0 Emley 7 A much changed side today and an excellent display throughout, the highlights being a four goal haul from Adam Powell, and the return of popular player James Whyte, back from serious injury. |
|
Fri
April 15th Dodworth 3 Emley 0 With
eleven fit players, the reigning champions traveled to Barnsley last night
to meet this seasons probable champions. They are without doubt the best
side in the league, combining good football with strength, power and
aggression. Well done Emley for frustrating the home side for 60 mins
before they nicked one from a corner kick situation. The lads battled hard
and never gave in and were unlucky to concede two more late on. |
|
Monday
April 11th Honley 0 – 4 Emley With injuries to three key players, Emley played superb. It was strongly emphasised before the game that the previous days 'debacle' must not be repeated, and every player was playing for his cup final shirt. Imeson in goal was never tested, a tribute to the back three partnership. Garside in midfield was tremendous as was young Powelly with his surging runs. A new strike partnership of Anderson and Cooper did ok, bagging a goal apiece, and Pollard did well in an unfamiliar midfield role. Man of the match: Jordan Maltas, the lad can play in all positions and always gives 110% |
|
Sunday
April 10th Battyeford 3 - 1 Emley With thoughts of next Mondays cup final on their minds, Emley ambled through this game with a very poor attitude. To be fair they looked comfortable coming up to half time at 0-0 when a serious clash of heads changed the game completely. While both centre backs, Smith and Graham went to hospital the lads battled on; though half heartedly. The make shift back four struggled with the home sides big centre forward, and at the other end, Emley’s strike force had a 'nightmare'. The less said the better! |
|
Sunday
April 3rd
With four key players missing Emley struggled to gel in the first period of a scrappy game which was dominated by poor finishing and bizarre refereeing. The back four looked water-tight in front of striker, but keeper for today, Jake Cooper. The score remained 0-0 with only 15 minutes to go and it was Honley who broke the deadlock following a free kick just outside the box; the resulting cross wasn’ t dealt with and the ball was poked home. By now Cooper had returned to his traditional role as a front man alongside the mercurial Brothers, and this turned the game completely. Soon after Smith equalised with a sweet drive into the far corner, and Cooper bagged number two with a great strike from the edge of the box. It was Cooper who struck for the third after great work by Gill down the right

Sunday
March 20th Man of the match: Though Graham and skipper Smith were rock solid today at the back, Garside shone throughout.
|
|
Sunday
March 13th Emley 1 – 4 Dodworth It was a case of 'men and boys ' today as a strong and streetwise Barnsley outfit thrashed Emley at home. Our title challenge is now over and we must pick up the pieces and prepare for success in the Cups. |

Report:
Emley v Battyeford Mar 1 2005 By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner Some good photos in the article as well THE adverse weather conditons of last week and an early Sunday morning snowfall was enough for any manager to call off their game and have a lie in. But Emley's Steve Cooper is made of sterner stuff and he could be seen at 7.30am clearing snow and spreading sand in order to make sure this quarter-final Cup game against Battyeford went ahead. Having lost three of their best players to professional clubs at the beginning of the season it seemed just a matter of time before last season's Cup and League double winners would relinquish their unbeaten run, but Cooper and assistant Terry Pollard are shrewd customers and Emley's unbeaten run now extends to 18 months. On the pitch, the players were met by bright sunshine for the noon kick off and the pitch was in near perfect condition. Battyeford squandered a couple of half chances and Gareth Garside shot wide before John Haygarth made the breakthrough for Emley with a close range strike on the half hour. The goal inspired Battyeford and for the rest of the half powerful striker Chris Scott terrorised the Emley defence, but despite some excellent interplay with Tom Hunter and Stephen Wilson the visitors had to wait until the second half before Nick Stubley rose to meet a corner at the near post to head home the equaliser. But Battyeford's joy was short-lived as a right-wing cross eluded the defence and John Haygarth was on hand to bundle the ball into the net off his knee and restore Emley's lead. More half chances came and went before Battyeford finally found the net again but, the referee had already blown for an earlier infringement and the goal was disallowed. Adam Powell finally put the result beyond doubt with a superb strike into the top corner from 20 yards. (3-1) And so Cooper's early morning snow clearing efforts were rewarded as his team move into the semi-finals where they will play either Hepworth Utd or Honley. Emley

Sun Feb 23rd Statto, game v Battyeford postponed due to absence of players that weekend on school trips. Sabre Tooth, thanks for your kind comments, we have some talented lads. Lost three to pro clubs recently with another three on trial now. Last seasons side was excellent, this season is a bit of a battle to keep a settled side. Statto, have you a spare programme from the Hyde game? I was with the U/19s that night. Drew 0-0 with Ossett Albion. |

Sunday
Feb 20th Netherton 1 - 7 Emley (Minor Cup semi-final) Emley put in a poor performance to reach yet another final against Dalton Dynamoes. We played `ugly` football but battled hard and relied on clinical finishing from Powell (3) to get us through. Garside scored twice and had a great game at full back, as did skipper Smith at centre back, a natural born leader. Maltas scored aided by Pollard down the left, a superb well-worked goal, and Cooper got the other, a speculative lob over the keeper. Man of the match; Adam Powell, a bag of tricks! |
|
Sun Feb 6th
Emley 2 - 1 YMCA Woeful finishing
spoiled a decent performance from Emley managing to bag only one in a
one-sided first period,a rasping left foot shot by Maltas. The flood gates
failed to open as the away side threatened to nick a point with the odd
counter attack. Man of the match Nathan Smith steadied the ship alongside
new signing Kieran Lach. The game was settled by 'maverick' Ash
Brothers,
an
exquisite 20 yard chip over the advancing keeper. A last minute, disputed
penalty made the score line look flattering for the Salendine Nook based
outfit. |

Sun Jan 30th Elland 0 Emley 8 Team;Harris,Pollard,Garside,Smith,Haygarth,Slack,Maltas,Brothers,Anderson,Cooper,Powell. subs;Butterfield,Gill,Lach. An understrength Elland side struggled from the kick off against a powerful Emley outfit, who gave debuts to Kieran Lach and Chris Gill today. Both did well, Gill scoring two from right midfield. Brothers notched four times and Powell twice in a very one sided contest. MOM; Jordan Maltas, easily the best player on show. |
|
Sun Jan 15th Emley 5 Hartshead 0 A quiet debut for keeper Jordon Higgins behind a well marshalled back three, led by skipper, and eventual MOM Nathan Smith. It was he who opened the scoring, a long clearance from his own half down wind that decieved the keeper. Two more from 'on-fire' Powell before the interval settled the lads. Young Powelly notched his hat trick and hard working Cooper bagged one in the second period to settle the affair. Team; Higgins,Pollard,Haygarth,Smith,Harris,Butterfield,Garside.Slack,Cooper, Anderson,Powell, sub;Pickup. |
|
Sunday Jan 9th Kexbrough 1 Emley 8 (cup 3rd rnd) Emley progressed to the last eight of the Bupa league cup today with an average display against a defensive, yet spirited second division outfit. The pitch was small and bumpy which led to scrappy football at times but superior quality won the day with goals from Garside 2, Smith 2,Powell 2,Anderson and Slack. Mom; Jake Cooper, worked hard to link up play between attack and midfield, Special mention too for John Haygarth, returning from injury. |
|
Sunday January 2nd Emley Under 15 v Netherton In the first half against a strong wind Emley played some great football and had many chances, but only converting one, a smart header from Cooper which was well delivered by Slack. The back four again were awesome, Pollard, Garside, Smith and Graham defended well as a unit. Emley ran riot down wind second half, a debut goal from man of the match Jordan Maltas and others from Smith and Slack finished off a spirited Netherton. Team; Imeson, Pollard, Garside,Smith, Graham, Slack, Maltas, Brothers, Cooper, Powell, Anderson. Subs,Butterfield, Harris. Result: Emley Under 15 v 4 Netherton 0 |

Sunday December 19th Emley Under 15 v Hepworth Utd (Huddersfield FA Minor Trophy 2nd Round) Emley progressed to the semi-final of the Huddersfield Minor Trophy with an emphatic win over a dogged, niggly Holme Valley outfit. Goals from Brothers 2,Powell 2 and Slack did the job. Team; Imeson. Pollard, Garside, Smith, Graham, Maltas, Slack, Anderson, Brothers, Cooper, Powell. Subs; Butterfield, Harris. Man of the match ; Gareth Garside, at the center of everything today. Result: Emley Under
15 5 - 2 Hepworth Utd |
|
Sunday December 12th Buttershaw v 0 Emley Under 15 7 (League Cup 2nd Round) The result never in doubt against an ordinary but spirited 3rd division side. The game overshadowed by a serious injury to popular player James Whyte Man of the match: Gareth Garside, play maker in midfield plus 2 goals. Best wishes Whytey from all the lads and have a speedy recovery. Buttershaw 0 - 7 Emley Under 15 |
|
Sunday December 5th Dudley Hill v Emley Under 15 A nervous first half saw debut keeper Jake Cooper make a couple of smart saves early on. James Whyte broke the deadlock with a fine individual goal to go in 1-0.The back four of Garside, Slack, Pollard and Graham were massive today as Emley ran away easy victors in the second period. A towering headed goal from Alex Slack was the pick of the other three goals. Team; Cooper, Pollard, Garside, Graham, Slack, Smith, Maltas, Anderson, Brothers, Powell, Whyte. sub, Butterfield. Men of the match; Back four, awesome. Result: Dudley Hill 0 - 4 Emley Under 15 |
|
Sunday November 28th Honley v Emley Under 15 (Huddersfield FA Minor Trophy 1st Round) A dire first half saw Emley play some of the poorest football I've seen them play and were lucky to come in 1-1 at half time. A couple of substitutions and a few choice words during the interval did the trick. Magic performances from Slack and Cooper, plus a tremendous individual goal by Whyte were the highlights of a poor game. Scorers; Graham, Slack, Whyte, Powell, Cooper, OG. Man of the match: Jake Cooper; a menace to Honleys defence. Result: Honley 2 - 6 Emley Under 15 |
|
Sunday Nov 14th Emley Under 15 v Rastrick (League Cup 1st Round) Emley entertained the 2nd division leaders this afternoon at a very blustery Skelmanthorpe. It was an adequate display in the first period, scrappy, untidy football and many missed chances. Better football in the second half against the wind that helped to warm the crowd. Scorers; Powell 2,Cooper 2,Whyte,Graham,Garside. Man of the match: Nathan Smith, Led the side well. Emley Under 15 7 - 0 Rastrick 0 |

Sunday Nov 7th Emley Under 15 v Dalton Dynamoes Today's game was abandoned a couple of minutes before half time. I can't comment much about what happened in the first 20 ish mins as I got there late. As for the 15 mins I saw, Dalton looked good going forward and Emley had to rely on counter attacks. One of the Emley lads then went down on the half way line in a heavy but fair challenge and was still down when Emley continued their attack. One of the Emley strikers was then fouled in the box and the ref awarded us a penalty. The Dalton bench were aggrieved about this and reacted badly to a young referee. Apparently they had been giving the ref a lot of stick throughout the first half from the opposite touchline. Dalton couldn't accept the decision and the referee decided he had had enough and walked off the pitch After a while, the Emley officials tried to negotiate that the game should continue with the 'Emley' linesman taking the whistle. Apparently the Dalton officials wouldn't accept this and after a further approx 20 mins trying to sort out a way in which the game could continue, the game was abandoned. This was always going to be a key game and I would have thought that the League officials should have given this game to a more experienced referee; I think the young lad should not be overly criticised about this - he was taking a lot of stick and the Dalton reaction to his decision was totally unacceptable to anyone. He had previously acted very well to niggling between Emley and Dalton players
Result:
Emley Under 15 0 - 0 Dalton Dynamoes (abandoned) |
|
Sun Oct 31st Brighouse v Emley Under 15 I can't remember the last time I said this about one of my teams, but they were better than us in every department! More commitment, desire, passion, you name it, they were better at it. We didn't compete in midfield, we rarely got the ball out wide and we resorted to the long ball game, but we are hard to beat and one point is better than none....I suppose! Team; Imeson, Haygarth, Pollard, Smith, Graham, Maltas, Garside, Powell, Cooper, Anderson, Whyte, Subs.Brothers, Butterfield, Harris. Man of the match; John Haygarth, always gives 110% Result: Brighouse 1 - 1 Emley Under 15 |
|
Sun Oct 24, 2004 Emley Under 15 v Hepworth Utd A much changed Emley side took a while to get going today against a well organised Holme Valley outfit, and in fact went a goal behind early on following some woeful defending. Emley equalised late in the half, an easy tap in by new signing Anderson from a superb Whyte cross. New pairing up front Cooper and Anderson ran riot in the second period with great supply from Brothers, Whyte and Smith. Gareth Garside was a rock at the back aided by Pollard and Haygarth. Team; Harris, Pollard, Haygarth, Garside, Butterfield, Maltas, Brothers, Smith, Whyte, Cooper, Anderson,Graham. Scorers; Anderson 4,Cooper,Brothers,Whyte. Man of match: Garside. Result: Emley U15 7 - 1 Hepworth Utd |

reason why there is a problem missing big
lad from last year Rotherham Utd have |
|
Mon Oct 18, 2004 Have followed the teams progress now for a couple of seasons and read your reports regularly. Question; Re. YMCA game. How come a team of 14,15 year old lads turn up 'jaded and lacklustre' when playing for perhaps the most talented junior side in the district? Is there a problem this season? |
|
Sun Oct 17, 2004 YMCA v Emley Under 15 It was a jaded and lacklustre Emley that turned up today following last weeks fantasy football display. Two up after 20 mins and coasting then we switched off and the game became a battle. Fair play to YMCA, they showed no respect to the reigning champions and played some great football. Result: YMCA 3 - 3 Emley U15 |
|
Sun Oct 10, 2004
Emley Under 15 v Elland Superb football from back to front today against a decent side who came here unbeaten. Team; Harris, Haygarth, Slack, Graham, Smith, Maltas, Garside, Powell, Cooper, Brothers, Whyte. subs. Pollard, Butterfield, Webster. Mom; Anthony Graham who marshalled the defence and bagged a hat-trick Result: Emley 10 - 0 Elland |
|
Sun Oct 03, 2004 Emley Under 15 v Battyeford Emleys football in the first half was a delight to watch, the passing, the movement, one-touch football, especially the opening 20 mins. One big problem! Woeful finishing! 12 attempts,0 on target! The visitors had 2 and bagged 2!!! The second half was much of the same, but it was the introduction, and return from injury of Ash Brothers that brought more joy to the home side, always dangerous and busy. With only 10 mins to go Battyeford missed an absolute sitter to wrap up the game, then Emley scored a fine strike by Alex Slack. With only 2 mins to go, Brothers surged into the box with the ball and was scythed down as he prepared to shoot. Adam Powell converted the pen. Great character boys! Its gonna be a tough season! Result: Emley U 15 2 - 2 Battyeford |
