Ossett
Albion U19 v Wakefield U19 Two new players impressed as Wakefield won this local mid table derby at Dimple Wells. Jack Shepherd playing in his second game opened the scoring on 13 minutes with an excellent shot from just outside the area as Wakefield just edged the first half. Wakefield started the second half in lively mood as Ash Duncan scored his 9th goal of the season within two minutes. Debutant Dominic Noteman then scored the goal of the game with a left foot shot into the top corner on 65 minutes with Shepherd getting his second on 77 minutes (Five goals in two games) to put Wakefield four up and controlling the game. A lack of concentration by Wakefield and with Ossett not giving up rewarded them with two consolation goals in the last three minutes Result: Ossett Albion U19 2 - 4 Wakefield U19 |

Ossett
Town U19 v Wakefield U19 Both keepers were in action early on with both making excellent saves, but it was the pace of Wakefield’s front three of Callum Stapleton, Ash Duncan and Scott Savage that looked the most dangerous against the undefeated Ossett. Duncan finally finding the net after good work by Stapleton just before half time put Wakefield 1 – 0 up at the break. With Wakefield’s keeper Liam Burton unable to continue in the second half due to a broken thumb sustained mid way through the first half. Wakefield started the second half with defender Danny Wells in goal. Ossett capitalised on this and looked comfortable when going 3 – 1 up mid way through the second half. But a great individual goal by centre back Richard Lavery with just 8 minutes left put Ossett on the back foot and only a great save by the Ossett keeper Ash Locker from a shot by Josh Ingham in the last minute stopped Wakefield getting a share of the points. Result: Ossett Town U19 3 - 2 Wakefield U19 |

Yorkshire Main U19
v Wakefield U19 The same outcome as the week before with Main winning by a two goal margin. The game was a lot more conservative as both team’s tried to cancel each other out. The play was the same but a slower tempo with the long ball tactics of Main against Wakefield’s passing game. Main took the lead mid way through the first half. With one of their first attacks on goal. A free kick inside the Wakefield’s half was headed on over the defence for the attacker to go one on one with the keeper the ball then rebounding off Burton onto Farrar and into the net. The second came after Wakefield failed to clear a corner and the ball was shot from just outside the area into the bottom corner of the goal. Wakefield had two good chances in the first half to get back into the game as first Farrar headed onto the underside of the cross bar and then Savage hit the post. In the second half Wakefield played some good football but never got on top of the Main defence. The best chance of the half going to Matty Wears as his shot hit the crossbar. Only the second time this season Wakefield have failed to score (Get nothing for hitting the woodwork). Result: Yorkshire Main U19 2 - 0 Wakefield U19 |

Yorkshire
Main U 19s v Wakefield U19s Top of the table Main made their intentions clear from the start and for the first 20 minutes pressurised and outplayed the young Wakefield team who struggle to get out of their own half and penalty area . Wakefield rode their luck with two clearances off the line and outstanding displays by three 16 year olds, keeper Liam Burton, defenders Aidan Morris and George Elvin alongside Richard Lavery and Sean Farrar kept them at bay before a chip over the defence put a Main forward one on one with Burton before lobbing over the keeper. Wakefield hit back within two minutes as a speculative cross by Will McGahan deceived Lee Kelsey in the Main goal to float over his head. The second half started the same and Main scored within two minutes of the restart. McGahan's miss kick across field was intercepted by the Main midfield and with the defence out numbered Main punished the error. Wakefield settled and started to play nice attractive football and deserved the equaliser. A free kick was flicked on by Jagger and Elvin finished with a tap in at the far post. At two all, Wakefield was playing some of their best football of the season and starting to dominate the play. The turning point came with a controversial penalty that put Main 3 -2 up. Lavery and a Main forward challenged for the ball on the edge of the box with Lavery heading it out for a throw in. The referee had other ideas and gave a penalty. Was it a foul, was it even inside the box? This was followed by another quick goal as Wakefield lost composure and heads down in being hard done to. Wakefield then realised the game was not lost and pushed forward and should have pulled at least a goal back as McGahan forced a great save out of the Main keeper and then Callum Stapleton missed an open goal. The game ended with Wakefield getting a succession of corners but could not get back into the game. Result: Yorkshire Main U 19s 4 - 2 Wakefield U19s |

Wakefield
U 19s v Pontefract Collieries U 19s Wakefield started the game with nice flowing football and were always in control but a failure to finish the chances created in the first half could have given a different score line of 0 – 0 at half time, Ash Brothers missing at least four good chances along with Scott Savage. Pontefract had their moments to score and could have punished the Wakefield team’s inability to score. The second half started great as Ryan Jagger hit a great shot from outside the area through a crowd of players in the first minute to put Wakefield one up. Then came the substitute of the season as Jack Shepherd (3) who had been released from Doncaster Rovers last season made his debut and scored with his first touch of the ball, a right foot shot into the bottom corner on 62 mins. This was followed by a solo effort 20 minute later as he out paced the Pontefract defence and then completed his hat trick within 22 minutes of being on the pitch as he turned in Will McGahan’s shot off the post back into the goal. Ash Brothers finally got the goal he had worked hard to get to make it 5 – 0 on 86 minutes. Brothers still had time to put one over the bar from 3 yards out. After nine games the under 19s team is now beginning to work as a team playing some quality football. Result: Wakefield U 19s 5 - 0 Pontefract Collieries U 19s |

Armthorpe Welfare U 19s
v Wakefield U19s Wakefield were beaten at Armthorpe in a game spoiled by blustery weather conditions. Wakefield were 3-0 down at half time, after
conceding two goals, including an own goal, early on, and playing against
the wind in the first half. Calum Stapleton raced clear and slotted the
ball home to reduce the arrears early in the second half, but Liam Burton
misjudged a lob that held up in the wind and Armthorpe had restored their
three goal cushion. Ryan Jagger's powerful 30 yard drive
pulled Wakefield another goal back, but it was too little too late. |

Pontefract
Collieries U 19 v Wakefield U 19 A performance that was efficient and effective resulted in a victory for a developing Wakefield side. With debuts given to Callum Stapleton and Liam Gill and excellent displays from Captain Will McGahan, Tom Denton and David Price, Wakefield never really looked troubled in this fixture and created several good opportunities to score in the first half and run away with the game. Wakefield scored first in the 20th minute. A free kick taken by McGahan was launched to the far post. There it was met by Denton who headed the ball back into the path of Gill who drove the ball home from close range. A well worked goal taken from the training field onto the pitch. Pontefract competed hard throughout the half and despite having a decent share of the possession, were unable to create a clear opening. The start of the second half saw a strong fifteen minute spell from Pontefract and they were duly rewarded with an excellent goal from 25 yards. This stunned Wakefield and they immediately fought back. Following good interplay between midfield and forwards, Savage was fouled 30 yards from goal. The resulting free kick was taken by Brothers, who struck a “Brazilian style bender” into the top corner leaving the keeper without a hope of saving it. This was an excellent strike from an ever improving player. The game continued to be closely fought with both sides creating chances, but in the end it was a thoroughly deserved victory for Wakefield. Result: Pontefract Collieries U 19 1 - 2 Wakefield U 19 |

Ossett
Town U19 v Wakefield U19 League Cup A depleted squad, missing five key players, traveled to local rivals Ossett Town on Sunday and for 90 minutes gave them a real fright. With several players asked to play out of position, the team, with only one substitute available due to Cup competition rules, gave an honest and disciplined performance of such maturity, that it was hard to believe that most of the players are at the younger end of this age group. From the kick off the players stuck to the game plan given to them beforehand. Tom Denton at centre half, normally a centre forward, played as if he had been there all of his life; David Price took on the role of holding midfield player and gave a first class demonstration of reading the game intelligently and Ben Stakes, playing his first full game of the season, gave the most wholehearted performance we have seen for a long time. The game started as expected, with a well established Ossett side passing the ball well and keeping possession for long periods. But they soon became frustrated in their play and were shooting from distance and wasting possession as Wakefield defended with intelligence and kept them at distance. Ossett eventually opened the scoring when a cleared corner was shot back through a crowded goalmouth. Wakefield came straight back at them and went on the offensive. The pressure led to a corner which was not dealt with by the Ossett defence, from which Lavery rammed the ball home for the equalizer. All square at half time. Ossett made two substitutions at half time and the initial impetus from the changes led to a lengthy period of pressure from Ossett. Many chances were created by them but poor finishing and poor play led to all of the chances being squandered. Against more established sides they could regret not being more clinical and ruthless with scoring opportunities. Ossett scored their second when a defensive mess up, led to the ball being headed wide of our keeper and playing in their forward to make it 2 – 1. Again Wakefield dug in and went after the equalizer. McGahan, was strong and creative on the left hand side and Brothers was forever probing looking for an opening down the right and between them they created several good situations. A corner once again led to Wakefields second goal. A wicked swinging cross from McGahan was not dealt with by the Ossett defence and Denton took advantage of the indecision to equalize. The impetus was with Wakefield at this point and it looked like they could snatch victory within normal time but it was not meant to be. In extra time, the difference in age and experience was there for all to see, as Wakefield finally succumbed to a strong Ossett side. They scored four goals in the added period of thirty minutes to achieve a scoreline that flattered them. They meet Scarborough Academy in the next round and we wish them success in this fixture. Wakefield on the other hand can take heart from this performance. A lot was learned today about the skills and the strength of character of the squad. It would be easy to say that the result could have been different if we had a full squad to choose from, but it would be wrong to do this. The players that took part in this fixture gave us a lot to be proud of and in the months to come, when the side is established and settled, the qualities of discipline, fortitude and courage, will succeed on another day and make us all feel good. Result: Ossett Town U19 6 - 2 Wakefield U19 After Extra Time
