League leaders Wakefield entertain 2nd placed South Kirkby Colliery in an Under 18s title deciding match at College Grove on Monday night, 27th April.

Barnsley International U 18 v Wakefield U 18

Under 18s maintain 100% record in Barnsley

Wakefield under 18s won 5-2 at Barnsley International to cement their position at the top of the league.

The Bears, playing with a gale force wind at their backs in the first half, were 3-0 up at half time.

Barnsley pulled a goal back early in the second half following, but Wakefield always had the upper hand and hit back to lead 5-1, before Barnsley netted a late consolation goal

Mar 15th Wakefield U 18 v Kippax U 18
U18's cruise to 10-1 victory against Kippax

Once again the Bears easily won this league game at North Avenue

Goals from South (3) Firth (2) Joe Cole (2), Glavin (2) and Josh Bergin in a routine league game. Good performances from Glavin, South and in particular Joe Cole with his dazzling footwork.

Morris once again failed to hit the target, missing guilt edged chances in both halves, one from 25 yards coming off the cross bar and a second half sreamer from 35 yards coming back off the post.

Poor defending led to Kippax's only goal, a fine effort past Crossland into the corner.

South thought he's scored the goal of the game when he returned a goal kick full on the volley from 40 yards, however rather unluckily the referee blew for full time as the ball left his foot!

A more testing game to come on Tuesday when this team play Field at College Grove in the U19's league.

Mar 8th Kippax Athletic U18 v Wakefield U18

Wakefield's under 18 side eased through to the next round of the Charles Rice League Cup with a comfortable victory at Kippax.

The Bears were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes. Aidan Morris opened the scoring with a low curling free kick from 25 yards. Elliot Firth converted the second and Danny South scored Wakefield's third goal.

South added a fourth late on in the game, converting a low cross from close range.

Kippax had little response to Wakefield's dominence on a poor playing surface and Wakefield completed two wins in two weeks at the ground after winning 4-1 in the league game last Sunday.

Morris completed the first 45 minutes with Matty Wears replacing him for the second half. Both players leave for London today until Wednesday, for a trial at Championship side Crytal Palace.

Wakefield U 18 v Moorend Stingers U 18

STINGERS SQUASHED BY SOUTH DOUBLE HATTRICK AS U18'S WIN 14-0

The Bears continued their bid to win the league title by totally outclassing 5th place Moorends Stingers

Moorends offered competition in the first 20 minutes, but once Wakefield had gone 4-0 up the inevitability of defeat dampened their spirits, sadly resorting to late tackles and elbows showing poor sporting etiquette.

Danny South had brought his scoring boots with him again, finishing exceptionally well and completing the game with a double hat trick. Elliott Firth (2) constantly troubled Moorends with strong running as did Matty Wears when he came on as sub to set up 2 goals in quick succession in the second half. Danville had opened the scoring and continued his impressive development following his match winning header and excellent performance in the reserves against Stalybridge. His centre half partner, Bent, also got on the score sheet with an excellent finish from an acute angle.

Glavin was at the heart of most of Wakefields good play with some beautifully weighted passes creating many of the goals and putting in some tenacious tackles and scoring twice. Ben Jackson scored an absolute screamer following his first half strike, followed quickly with an equally impressive strike from Leo who made a devastating impact in the last 20 minutes, scoring twice and causing major problems down the left flank. Wears also notched late on.
A second game for the even younger 'Joe Cole' who shows promise for next seasons U18's. Very good performances all over the pitch including a Gerrard like box-to-box performance from Dom and very assured performances from Ryan, Alex and Josh despite limping off towards the end.

Morris linked up well on the left and put some excellent balls into the box, coupled with allowing the right winger an exit from his back pocket at the full time whistle. A league goal however seems a distant dream! Dale had nothing to do between the sticks, although showed fantastic concentration by pulling off a brilliant save very late on.

Man of the Match-the unplayable South who took home 2 matchballs and showed striking ability beyond his 16 years.

Ackworth U 18 v Wakefield U 18
BEARS U18'S MAUL ACKWORTH-IN THE END!

The Bears eventually ran out 8-1 winners though made hard work of it.

For the second week running the Bears went a goal behind when some sloppy defending allowed Ackworth their first shot on target which rolled bast the keeper from 12 yards. The wind contributed to a lackluster first half, which saw the Bears build up work improve as the half went on though finishing was wayward and when shots were on target the Ackworth keeper-their man of thr match, was in fine form with a string of excellent saves.. It took until the stroke of half time to equalise, a good flick on by Danville resulted in Elliot Firth volley first time in off the insid of the post. The second half was a different story. Wind against them Ackworth found it difficult to clear their lines and with improving finishing there was only going to be one outcome. The Bears started the second half in total control. Conor Glavin struck a super second goal within a minute of the restart without Ackworth having touched the ball from the whistle. The general play improved greatly and the Bears were creating chance after chance. Goals from Matty Wears (2-1 pen) Danny South (2) and Bent (pen) put paid to the oppositions toil, though a nasty studs-up challenge on Wears from the Ackworth keeper saw the referee produce a red card. The resulting penalty was converted by Firth for his second. The Bears continued to probe forward with the excellent Aidan Morris pushing on from left back producing good link up play. Morris seemed certain to get a much craved goal after performing very well against Garforth for the first team on Saturday , however when presented with his chance from just inside the box he thundered the ball onto the roof of Ward 6, Pinderfields geriatrics center much to the amusement of the patients, to which a cry of waaaayyy could be heard from Wakefields elderly. Well done Aidan for brightening up their day! Good performances from Glavin, Firth, Morris and South.

Accrington Stanley U 18 v Wakefield U 18
BATTLING YOUTH TEAM DEFEATED AT ACCRINGTON

10 man Wakefield battled hard but lost out to two late goals to exit the FA Youth Cup at the First Round stage.

Accrington went in front early in the game and Wakefield were left with what seemed an impossible task when striker Danny South was harshly dismissed fo
r two bookable offences with only half an hour played. The young referee struggled to control the game throughout the 90 minutes and made several controversial
decisions during the match, making it even harder for Wakefield to get back into the game.

The young Bears came out fighting in the second half and contained Accrington well before equalising with twenty minutes left. Matthew Wears pinpoint far post
cross was headed back across goal by Elliott Firth and substitute Ben Jackson made no mistake from six yards.

Just as the game was heading for extra time, Accrington went in front when Dale Crossland was beaten in a one on one situation, despite the best efforts of Aidan Morris on the goalline. Accrington scored a third goal deep into injury time to secure their place in the next round.

The Wakefield players did the club proud and gave a professional side a good game, especially considering they played two thirds of the game with only ten men.

Wakefield: Crossland, Burgin (Wells 83), Morris (c), Glavin, Bent, Danville, Wears, Beever, South, Firth, Vaines (Jackson 45). Subs Not Used: Burton, Turner, Driscoll, Ryan.

Wakefield U 18 v Liversedge U 18
WAKEFIELD WIN IN FA YOUTH CUP

Wakefield beat Liversedge 2-1 in an entertaining game at College Grove to make it through to the first round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time.

After an early scare when Liversedge hit the post, Wakefield recovered and enjoyed the better of the first half action. The young Bears went in front midway through
the half when Danny South headed home from close range. Liversedge were back level just before half time with a shot across goal nestling in the far corner.

Overall the second half was a fairly open encounter, but Wakefield improved as the half wore on and deserved the win at the end of the game. The second goal
came when Conor Glavin's superb left wing corner was flicked into the net by Matthew Wears at the near post.

Wakefield could have added to the score but were denied by both good saves by the goalkeeper and the woodwork. Wakefield now travel to Accrington Stanley in the
first round proper.
