Thornes Juniors 2 - 4 Wakefield FC U 12's

On another Wet and Wild Sunday, Wakefield FC travelled to Thornes in one of the closing games of the season.

Both sides were evenly matched in the opening minutes, with Thornes attacking and Wakefield defenders Spencer Norton, Josh Uzstan, Tom Hardwick, Kyle Goodwin and Goalie Sam Beresford keeping them out, then Wakefield attacking with Midfielders Sam Ghomi, Robert Garside, Rene Rowe, Jomel Kirk, Allen Mohammad & Striker Jason Davies, but Thornes kept them out. It was all back and forth for the first 10 Minutes, but Thornes struck first on the 11th minute from a corner. Wakefield tried to get back into it with more than a few chances to equalise but there was no luck. It was only 4 minutes from the break when they equalised. Sam G played a telling ball though to Jason, who coolly stoked it home. 1-1 at the Break.

Wakefield came back out the livelier side, and just 5 minutes into the second half they took the lead. Josh U hoofed the ball up the field to Rene who, having already beaten the back four, lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net. 2-1 and all to play for.

The next goal would be pivotal, and luckily for us, Wakefield got it. On the 40th Minute, an amazing corner from Allen curled inwards and into the back of the net! Had they finished Thornes off? The answer was to be no, as they got their second 7 minutes later. Game on now. Both teams had numerous chances to get a goal, but it wasn’t to be for Thornes, but it was for Wakefield as they sealed the deal 10 minutes from time. Allen took another corner straight onto the head of Josh who directed it into the back of the net. Sam, Rene, Jomel, Jason and Robert all had chances to make it 5, but just couldn’t convert.

Wakefield FC U 14's 0 - 3 Durkar Juniors

By our Home Reporter Christine Tolson

Glorious sunshine but with a bitter chill ensured conditions were good for todays cup match between Wakefield FC Junior U14s and visitors Durkar

but unfortunately that was the only good luck that befell the bears in this game. The home team battled hard and despite some good chances for Connor Playford and Tomas Wiles lady luck wasn't on their side today. Durkar took full advantage and continued to play the long ball putting Wakefield on the back foot and any opportunity the bears made for themselves was undone by the visitors acute use of the offside rule. Some good team work and excellent performances from Dan Clarke, Danny Keane and Robert Jukes ensured Durkar didn't get the easy win they envisaged however when the final whistle blew the bears had suffered a 3-0 defeat. The Operation LaserTag Player of the Match was awarded to Cameron Dye for a superb left back display. Overall though Wakefield can hold their heads high and continue to build on a good team spirit.

Wakefield FC 8 - 2 Hemsworth Terriers U 12

Snow. Why did that happen? No one will ever know. It makes its mark though, as nearly every pitch in and around Wakefield were unbelievably sludgy. However, Wakefield FC battled their way though, which included putting sand down, and their match with Hemsworth Terriers was on.

Wakefield started excellently, with a brilliant spell of attacks by the Midfielders Elliot Schofield, Sam Ghomi, Jordan Reed, Jomel Kirk & Rene Rowe (with substitute Allen Mohammed) and striker Jason Davies, however it was unfortunate that they couldn’t find the back of the net. But, on the 8th minute, they finally took the lead. Jomel Kirk played a telling ball in which Sam Ghomi smashed home. Fifteen minutes later Jomel played another great ball in which the Hemsworth Goalie & defenders couldn’t co-ordinate to get the ball away, and Jason just tapped the ball into the back of the net. Although, Hemsworth started to attack, with most of them being stopped by defenders Kyle Goodwin, Kyle Douglas, Thomas Hardwick & Joshua Uzstan (with other substitute Spencer Norton) and Goalkeeper Sam Beresford keeping them at bay until the 20th minute when a little mistake at the back let Hemsworth score. 2-1.

In the second half, Wakefield just let fly and destroyed Hemsworth. A slip up at the back for Hemsworth let Sam Ghomi produce a brilliant cheeky chip for Jason to head into the back of the net. On the 46th minute Sam G just let fly and hammered the ball into the back of the net. One minutes later Jason just lobbed the ball over the goalie for 5-1. The 6th one came 7 minutes later, when Jordan stroked a great ball to Jomel who ran down the wing and he crossed the ball along the floor for Jason to poke home. Then just 30 seconds after the restart Kyle G bombed down the wing and smashed the ball into the back of the net for 7-1. Hemsowrth began to attack which saw substitute goalie George Mitchell keep out, but Hemsworth scored again. But just before the match ended, Rene Rowe worked his way though the defence, but he lost the ball, only for Kyle G to follow up with the final goal. 8-1 the match finished.

Castleford Town 1 - 9 Wakefield FC U 14

Wakefield FC Junior U14s ran riot today with an emphatic 9-1 away win over rivals Castleford.

The Operation LaserTag Player of the Match Levi Ruzicka set the ball rolling with an early opener and within a few minutes had scored a second. The rest of the first half was full of frustration for Wakefield as chances from Tom Wiles, Connor Playford and Junaid Yousef went begging. Not long into the second half the referee awarded a penalty to Castleford and this could easily have been a turning point in the match. As it was Wakefield stepped up a gear putting the home side onto the back foot. Levi Ruzicka was unstoppable showing a blistering turn of pace netting himself another 4 goals, with Daniel Clarke, Josh Miscell and Joe Newman also on the scoresheet after a thrilling second half effort. Wakefield are continuing to grow in confidence week by week with a superb team performance once again and Haydn Froggett impressing as the bears stand-in keeper. Keep up the good work boys.

Hemsworth Terriers 1 - 5 Wakefield FC U12

The Game started quick, and it was Hemsworth who opened the scoring on the 16th Minute. But that didn’t dampen Wakefield’s spirits, as they equalised through Jason Davies on the 24th Minute. George Mitchells kicked the ball up the pitch and Jason controlled the ball and volleyed it into the back of the net. Hemsworth did try to get ahead again, but defenders Spencer Norton, Kyle Goodwin and Josh Uztes stood strong. But when Hemsworth did surpass the defence, keeper George kept any danger out. Wakefield could have bagged a few more, with brilliant balls by Midfielders Jordan Reed, Robert Garside, Elliot Schofield, Sam Ghomi and Jomel Kirk which the Strikers just couldn’t capitalise on.

In the Second Half, strikers Jason Davies, Rena Rowe and Kyle Douglas were working hard and this paid off when Wakefield got their 3rd.and 4th in quick successions both from quick corners by Jordan Reed and a tap in by Rena Rowe 1-3. Sam B was making great saves and Wakefield pushed and pushed, and their effort was paid off on 54th minute as the ball hit an unfortunate Hemsworth defender and finished in the back of the net. Wakefield matched Durkar every step of the way during this game, even though we went 1-0 down at half time, they kept on trying with shots from Joseph Asquith, Callum Cowell, Adam Nasar and Jack Young, but with a match so equal both keepers were on top form and it was hard for anyone to score.

Wakefield FC 2 - 2 Stanley United U 12

On the last Sunday in January 2011, Wakefield FC took on Stanley Juniors. After a terrific match on the first day of the season back in September, everybody was looking forward to another traffic match.
Wakefield were off from the start, and it only took 12 minutes for them to find the back of the net. A scintillating right footed shot by Allen Mohamed from outside 18 yard box finished in the top corner of the net. 1-0.
But it was only a few minute later that Stanley equalised to make it all square.
The next 30 minutes were back and forth, as there were many chances to score for both sides but all were missed. Then on the 39th minute, a fantastic strike from defender Spencer Norton was stopped by the keeper’s fingers and Jason Davies tapped it in 2-1! But again, Stanley equalised to the disappointment of Wakefield.

Wakefield FC 4 - 1 Crofton U 12

On a quite calm January weekend (the day after Iran got knocked out of the Asian Cup, I might add) Wakefield FC Under 12’s took on a Crofton side, who beat them 3-2 in October. Wakefield were looking for better today.
The start was very slow, with alot of passing going on, with only a few shots either way. It was in the 11th minute though, when there was a breakthrough. A smooth ball from striker Jason Davies to winger Jomel Kirk, who smashed it home. 1-0. Wakefield then started going all out, crosses, shots passes, but they couldn’t seem to double their lead because Crofton were doing well to stop them, as well as attack themselves, but Defenders Spencer Norton, Joshua Uzstan, Tom Hardwick & Kyle Goodwin and Goalie Sam Beresford did well to stop them. After some substitutions, Wakefield doubled their lead. Kyle Douglas played a telling ball into the box, where Rene Rowe prodded the ball into the net. 2-0 Wakefield, time to calm down a bit.

Well, I say calm down, Wakefield took a 3-0 lead just 3 minutes later. Kyle G hammered the ball into the box, where Midfielder Sam Ghomi connected with a small touch, and the ball screwballed into the back of the net. In the second half, the match slowed down a bit, Wakefield midfielders Sam Ghomi, Jordan Reed, Kyle Douglas, Elliot Schofield & Jomel Kirk & Strikers Jason Davies & Rene Rowe did well attacking, while vice versa with the defenders. Wakefield sealed the deal in the 48th Minute where Jordan threaded the ball to Jason who made it 4. Unlickily Crofton got a goal back but Wakefield held on for the 4-1 win.

Alverthorpe U8’s 1 - 2 Wakefield FC U9’s (friendly)

A super display from Wakefield as there passing was up there with the pro’s.

A ball from Adam stakes to Callum Cowell through to Jack Young who passed to Adam Nasar who crossed it to Joseph Asquith he then put the ball into the box for Callum Cowell to run in and fire it into the net. One first class team goal straight from the training ground.

And it was like that for Wakefield’s second half, a short ball from Cieran O’Neill to Adam Nasar he passed to Jack Young who nudged it to Callum Cowell who then shot hitting the crossbar, it came back out to Joseph Asquith he shot only for their keeper to block it, but Igors Lipsics was there to tap it in.Adam Barnes had nothing to do until the last minutes when Alverthorpe scored a consolation goal.

Alverthorpe Juniors 3 - 0 Wakefield U 14

First away match after Xmas

Wakefield FC U14s proved to be worthy opponents to home side Alverthorpe.

Although the 3-0 scoreline didn't reflect how well Wakefield played as unfortunately two of the goals Alverthorpe gained were unlucky own goals from the bears. In torrential rain Wakefield played exceptionally well, in particular great efforts from Danny Keane, Cameron Dye, Levi Ruzicka and debutant Joe Howard. The bears continued to press Alverthorpe throughout the game with shots from Connor Playford and Robert Jukes just wide of the net but when the final whistle blew Wakefield had suffered a 3 - 0 defeat.

New Lodge 2 - 2 Wakefield U12s

On the date of the 16th of January 2011, the day after Iran beat North Korea in the Asia Cup, Wakefield FC took a trip to Barnsley to face New Lodge. After a terrific match back in October, the two teams looked to provide once again.
Wakefield were off from the start, and it only took 40 Seconds for them to find the back of the net. A scintillating corner from Allen Yousef proved confusing, as a New Lodge player found the back of his own net. 1-0 Wakey.
But it was only a minute later that New Lodge equalised with a header from a corner to make it all square.
The next 20 minutes were back and forth, as there were many chances to score for both sides but all were missed. Then on the 20th minute, a fantastic strike from Midfielder Jordan Reed looped over the keeper and into the net. 2-1! But again, just a minute later, a header again equalised from a corner, to the disappointment of Wakefield.

The defenders of Spencer Norton, Joshua Uzstan, Tom Hardwick, Kyle Douglas & Elliot Schofield and Goalie Sam Beresford did a good job to stop any more goals going in, and Midfielders Jordan, Rene Rowe, Robert Garside, Jomel Kirk & Allen Yousef and Strikers Kyle Goodwin & Sam Ghomi trying to make it 3, but just couldn’t as the match ended 2-2.

Wakefield FC 1 - 2 Kippax Under 12

With the New Year Celebrations all but over, it was back to daily basics with football, as Wakefield FC battled Kippax in a tough contest.
It only took Wakefield 2 minutes to open the scoring, with an impressive move from midfielder Jomel Kirk, to Rene Rowe, who put a pass over to winger Sam Ghomi, who immaculately curled the ball home for 1-0.
Kippax weren’t happy with that though, as they pushed for an equaliser, unfortunately for them, the defenders did there jobs and stand-in Goalie Kyle Douglas was superb to deny them at every opportunity.
In the second half, Kippax kept pressing and, due to lack of concentration, got the equaliser. And 3 minutes later, after Kyle had made a spectacular save to stop ball crossing the line, however none of Wakefield players attempted to reach the loose ball and Kippax attacker did.
Wakefield got a chance to equalise through a penalty when Sam Ghomi was fouled in the box. He got up and dusted himself off and took the penalty, but, the penalty was saved. Wakefield tried for an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be as they lost 1-2.

But a few mistakes saw Thornes go on a run by scoring 3, until a good ball from Jack Young found Joseph Asquith outside the box who then fired it past the keeper. In defence Callum Cowell and Igos Lipsics held the back line well; Wakefield went in 4-1 down at half time.

Second half Wakefield again started well when Thornes keeper pasted to his player it was Callum Cowell who tackled him, tuck the ball into the box and shot it low past the keeper into the net. Then a long ball from Adam Barnes in goal saw Joseph Asquith run it into the box and put it nicely past the keeper. Wakefield’s defenders of Cieran O’Neill and Tom Cooper tried their best to stop the 2 goals that Thornes put in. But Wakefield still kept going with Jack Young hitting the post and a great ball from Callum Cowell across the goal line for Joseph Asquith to nudge it just wide of the post, but it could of been worse if not for Adam Barnes in goal who made same outstanding saves.

The West Street Garage Normanton,  men of the match was shared between, Adam Barnes and Joseph Asquith.

Wakefield FC 3 - 2 Alverthorpe Under 12

Snow, That one vital ingredient that can send the whole world into delirium. That also include the footballing world, which is the reason we had a little break last week, on the back of a 5-1 defeat to the league leaders Alverthorpe Juniors. As we hadn’t won for 6 matches, we were longing for a win, was this the day?
It looked as if the answer was again to be no, as Alverthorpe took the lead on 4th minute. Although it seemed like the League Leaders were heading to yet another win, a brilliant spell of play by Wakefield FC’s team lead to Striker Jason Davies to get the equaliser. 1-1.
Pumped up it seemed, Wakefield did an unthinkable feat and scored again within 45 seconds of the restart. A brilliant long ranged effort from midfielder Jordan Reed sent the whole Wakefield team into a relieved madness, 2-1 Wakefield FC, with only 9 Minutes played!
Obviously the opposition weren’t happy, but the solid defence of Goalie Sam Beresford, and defenders Joshua Uzstan, Kyle Goodwin, Spencer Norton & Tom Hardwick stood strong to keep Alverthorpe at bay, and when the ball was played forwards, Midfielders Sam Ghomi, Jordan Reed, Robert Garside, Jomel Kirk & Allen Yousef did all they could to play the ball to Striker Jason Davies, and obviously help themselves, but at the break the scores were still 2-1.
After the brief rest, both teams came out after the break with different thoughts. Within d minutes Alverthorpe equalised, which could have signalled a draw, but Wakefield weren’t thinking that. After 10 minutes of sheer pressure, another brilliant move gave Wakefield the lead. It started in the defence, and gradually moved along the field all the way up to Jomel, who fired the ball into the roof of the net to give Wakefield FC a 3-2 lead.
Alverthorpe to keep their unbeaten season intact then came out with all guns blazing. A brilliant 15 minutes period which involved ball hitting post, saves, misses and a lot of tension, Wakefield FC managed to survive and hold on for a fantastic and deserved 3-2 win!

Wakefield kept attacking and pushing all the time, but the New Lodge keeper was at his best to deny Wakefield attacks after attacks until 29th minute when KD passed the ball to JD for a simple tap in.

After the half time break, Wakefield came on the pitch with more urgency. All it took was 1 minute for them to go a goal up. U14's Brilliant Cup Tie

Wakefield FC U14s met Dorothy Hyman today in the first round of the Charles Rice Invitation Cup and both teams were evenly matched.

During the first half Wakefield pressed hard but were unrewarded with Dorothy Hyman just managing a goal before the half time whistle. Wakefield came out the second half and continued to attack with Levi Ruzicka dominating the midfield and Cameron Dye playing well in defence. The bears then stepped it up a gear and Robert Jukes scored a nifty volley past the visitors keeper and Wakefield were regenerated once more. Tomas Wiles and Daniel Clarke continued to be in great form with some superb saves also from goalkeeper and the Operation LaserTag Player of the Match Lewys Irvine. End to end football continued with Dorothy Hyman sneaking another one in however Wakefield continued to pile the pressure on and were rewarded when they caused one of the visitors to panic scoring an unfortunate own goal. When the final whistle blew the game ended in a 2 - 2 draw therefore a replay will be required in the near future to decide who progresses to the next round of the cup. Wakefield started the game well with some good play throughout the team. Our keeper jack young had to make some great stops, the defence of Adam stakes and Ciaran O’Neill held strong but some good shots slipped through, midfielders Tom cooper and Adam Barnes played super football all over the pitch,
Strikers Joseph Asquith and Callum Cowell found it hard to penetrate there defence,
The score seems unfair for the way they played.

Wakefield FC 5 - 2 Thornes Juniors Under 12

On the first Wet, Wild & Windy Autumn Sunday this year (get ready for more), Wakefield FC took on Thornes, Two teams who played very well last year, and they both came out on top in high scoring games last week. It was another High scoring game this week as well.
Both teams stared off quite slow, with the usual passing movement, trying to figure out each others styles of play, as Wakefield attacked, Sam Ghomi, Jordan Reed, Sam Beresford, Rene Rowe, Jason Davies & Kyle Goodwin kept pressing for a goal, but to no outcome. As Thornes attacked, Thomas Hardwick, Allen Mohamad, Robert Garside, Spencer Norton & Goalie George Mitchell all put in the exhausting effort to keep it at 0-0, but Thornes finally broke them down to make it 1-0 in the 8th Minute. That didn’t sorrow Wakefield though, as they kept attacking and it paid off 3 Minutes later, as an impressive long kick from George fell to striker Jason, who buried it. 1-1, everything to play for. Because of that equaliser, Wakefield sat back a little bit, and Thornes regained their lead on the 15th minute. But again Wakefield showed that they will not die, and equalised for a second time in the 20th minute, through a smashing volley by Jordan from a corner by Allan. 2-2 now, and it was anyone’s game. The next goal would be a vital one. Luckily (in more ways than one), Wakefield got it. Kyle Goodwin bombed down the right from a through ball from Sam G, and he crossed it along the floor to the a unlucky Thornes defender, who smashed it into the back of his own net. 3-2 to Wakefield at Half Time.
Thornes came out in the second half revitalised, and they pressed hard for an equaliser. They tried from long range and short range, but to the excellent skills of George in net, they couldn’t find back of the net. As Wakefield looked for that finishing goal, they hit the post, inches from the post, hit it wide and the Keeper saved some, until the breakthrough came. A nice ball was played to Sam G who, under some controversy of an offside/onside dispute, cleanly curled it into the top corner. 4-2 Wakefield FC. As if 4 wasn’t enough, Wakefield wanted fifth just to keep it going, and they got it two minutes from time. Kyle was fouled in the penalty area, and he stood himself up, dusted him self off just enough to smash the penalty home.
Final Score: Wakefield FC 5 - 2 Thornes.

Nostell Miners 9 - 0 Wakefield FC U9’S

Wakefield started the game well with some good passers, tackles and blocks. But there heads went down after Nostell’s first goal. Joseph Asquith in goal made a lot of good saves, one in particular where he was fully stretched to tip the ball on to the crossbar. Jack young and Callum Cowell up front couldn’t break through their defence; Wakefield continued playing under par the rest of the game. Which left them high and dry against a Nostell team that was too big and strong for them to handle.

The West Street Garage Man of the Match was Joseph Asquith for some great saves

Wakefield FC 2 - 8 Castleford Town Under 14

Slow off the mark for the U14's

Kicking off the first game of the season and Wakefield FC U14s were caught unawares first half by visitors Castleford

The bears didn't seem to settle easily and quickly enough and Castleford capitalized fully on this with a barrage of goals. After the first half break Wakefield came out a different team and were stringing together quality passes and looking more like a team. Tomas Wiles was first on the scoresheet for the bears with a superb lob and bounce over the keepers head which delighted the players and spectators alike. Good attacking play came from Joe Newman, Bobby Jukes and debutant Junaid Yousaf. Shortly after the bears had their second chance with a beautiful ball through from Daniel Clarke to Joe Newman who was taken down in the box and then duly did the necessary from the penalty spot giving Wakefield their second goal. Although the home team continued to give their all to the end of the game the goal defecit from the first half was too big a mountain to climb. A special mention must also go to Lewys Irvin in goal who gave a stalwart performance and an excellent defensive display from first timer Daniel Keane. Excellent efforts also from Connor Playford, James Murphy and Daniel Atkinson. A disappointing start to the season for Wakefield with an 8-2 defeat however considering their second half display high hopes for the coming matches. The Operation LaserTag Player of the Match was awarded to Jake Tolson.

Stanley United 3 - 7 Wakefield FC Under 12

The First Day of the Football season, one of the most important days in the Annual Calendar (for most people, anyway), Wakefield FC U12s realised that in their game against Stanley United.
It’s a priority to win.
Both teams were on the attack straight from the off, with Stanley pressuring for the course of the first few minutes, and Wakefield pressuring for the time after, but that pressure did not disappoint as Wakefield took the lead in the 11th minute. Sam Ghomi flicked a header on, only for Stanley to head it back, but Sam again headed the ball over the top for striker Kyle Goodwin to net the first. 0-1 to Wakefield.
But that didn’t dishearten Stanley, as they pushed for the equaliser from the Kick off, but they were foiled in their attempts by the brilliant goalkeeping skills of debutant George Mitchell and his troupe of defenders, co-debutant Joshua Uzstan, Spencer Norton, Thomas Hardwick and Elliot Schofield. But Stanley’s pressure eventually paid off as they equalised 6 Minutes Later. That wasn’t the end of the scoring for the first half though, as Wakefield upped the game and scored in the 21st and 25th minutes via Kyle Goodwin (for his Hat Trick, I might add) and the half ended 1-3 to Wakefield FC.
In the second half, as they made it 4 in the 33rd Minute. Kyle Goodwin again getting on the score sheet. Wakefield fully in control, laid off for a bit, but with the midfielders Sam Ghomi, Jordan Reed, Rene Rowe and Allan Mohamad and Strikers Kyle Douglas, Jason Davies and Kyle Goodwin, another goal wouldn’t be unlikely. Especially as Jordan Reed made it 1-5 with a cheeky header from a corner by Allan. On the 37th Minute, Stanley made it 2-5, but only 3 minutes later, Kyle Douglas had a through ball put to him, and he buried the ball in back of the net 2-6 Wakefield.. For short period after Wakefield’s sixth goal, both teams eased off, until Wakefield made it lucky number 7 by a volley over the oncoming keeper by Jason Davies. Stanley scored again but it wasn’t enough as Wakefield ran away 3-7 winners.

Wakefield FC 1 - 1 Altofts Juniors Whites U9’s

The first league game kicked off with plenty of pressure from the home team, Tom Cooper had lots of the ball in midfield, also good runs on the wings from Joseph asquith and Adam Barnes, in defence Ciaran O’Neill and Adam Stakes cleared the ball up field many a times, in goal Jack Young was outstanding with some brilliant saves, and up front all Callum Cowell’s shots were blocked or saved. 0-0 at half time it was anybody’s game.

Wakefield made some changes with Matthew bell and Igors Lipsics making a big impact in the game. And it was the home team who drew first blood with a lovely pass from Callum Cowell just in front of Joseph Asquith who drilled the ball into the net, but with only a few minutes left Altofts equalised through the only mistake of the match.

The West Street Garage man of the match ‘Normanton’ went to Jack Young who made some great saves.
