Phoenix (Rotherham) away
S&HFA Association Cup 1st Round

The Association Cup is played by the more junior of the Senior teams in the Sheffield and Hallamshire area, including many teams that the first team have previously played in the Senior Cup competition. Emley had all the possession in the first half but could not breech a resolute Phoenix defence and the tie remained goal less at the interval.
The game followed a similar pattern in the second half until 15 minutes from the end Chris Prasher broke free and crossed for J P Flynn to open the scoring. Phoenix now  surged forward leaving gaps at the back which Flynn capitalised on to score his second. The home team got back into the game when they lobbed our keeper from 40 yards. Phil Smith got the goal of the season when he rounded 5 players to score in the top left corner and Tom Appleton broke away to complete the scoring

Result: Phoenix 1 – 4 Emley

Pickering Town Reserves home

Pickering played all the football in the first half without penetrating the Emley defence. Emley’s left winger Dave Wallace almost opened the scoring when his volley rattled the woodwork. Against the run of play Christophe Kaniki was brough down by the keeper and from the penalty spot Phil Smith scored with a powerful shot to give the home side the lead at half time.

With the wind at their backs Pickering again dominated the first 15 minutes of the second period but the Emley defence stood firm. After weathering the storm Phil Smith’s corner was headed into the net like a bullet by James Tomlinson to kill the game off.

Result:
Emley 2 – 0 Pickering

Sep 10th Pontefract Collieries Reserves home
The reserves were looking for revenge for the Cup defeat inflicted on us last season. Emley had a lot of the play in the first half and whilst the visitors missed two good chances the score remained goal less at half time.
Kettlewell, who came on as substitute for the injured Washington, broke the deadlock on the hour mark. J P Flynn then added a second before Kaniki completed the Emley scoring just before the end. A fine 25 yard freekick gave Pontefract a consolation goal.

Result: Emley 3 – 1 Pontefract

Liversedge Reserves away

Reserves hit hosts with a 5 goal blitz

September 10th Huddersfield District Chronicle

A five goal away win at Liversedge kicked off the season for Emley reserves.  Liversedge won the toss and elected to play downhill. Emley’s defence weathered the pressure in the first hald which ended goal-less. For ten minutes after the  re-start Liversedge continued the attack but Emley gradually took control.

They went ahead following a Phil Smith free kick and then substitute Dave Wallace broke in from the left and slotted into the top corner. Hardworking French import and man of the match – Kristophe Kaniki – made it three. With Liversedge then down to 10 men both Wallace and Kristophe each added a second goal.

Result: Liversedge 0 – 5 Emley
