Ian Banks (Former manager and
previously Central Midfield and captain) 'Banger' joined the club in 1995 having played for Leicester City, Barnsley, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Bradford among others in a long professional career. Continued to show as much enthusiasm at Emley's level as he did as a pro, he is one of the most skillful players we've had at the club. His dead-ball skills, shooting and passing could compare to any player at any level. He retired at the end of the 1998-99 season to pursue his new career as a financial advisor. Became manager in July 2003 when Ronnie Glavin moved to Barnsley to become coach. However, players leaving and a poor financial situation in the club meant younger players had to be recruited and following a very poor start to the 2003-04 season Banger resigned for personal reasons in October 2003 after only 17 games in charge. |
